Das vom Berliner Designer Michael Hilgers entwickelte Prinzip des Symbiotic Design beschreibt Wohnobjekte, die sich organisch mit Architektur, Raum, Natur und anderen Dingen verbinden und so einen sinnvollen ästhetischen Mehrwert schaffen.

  

Im Jahr 2005 erdachte er mit seinem STECKLING das erste Pflanzgefäß, das symbiotisch mit einem Bauwerk verschmilzt, indem es sich werkzeuglos auf ein Balkongeländer stecken lässt.

 

Damals fand sich kein Hersteller, der das Potential dieser innovativen Idee erkennen wollte. So gründete Michael die rephorm Edition, um seine Entwürfe im Selbstverlag als limitierte Kleinserie anbieten zu können

 

Diese Kunststoffobjekte für den architekturgebundenen Außenraum sind keine Massenprodukte, sondern entstehen im Rotationsguss – einem der ältesten, zeitaufwändigsten und handarbeitsintensivsten Verfahren in der Kunststoff-Formgebung.

 

In einer brandenburgischen Kunststoffmanufaktur werden so pro Tag maximal zehn dickwandige, nahezu unzerstörbare Gefäße aus beinahe vollständig recyclebarem Kunststoff gefertigt. Durch die händische Bearbeitung (Entformen, Entgraten, Flämmen..) wird jedes Objekt zu einem Unikat mit persönlichem Charakter.

 

Da sich die Gussform während des Herstellungsprozesses zunehmend abnutzt, ist die Anzahl der produzierten Objekte begrenzt. Es handelt sich also nicht um eine künstliche Verknappung, sondern um einen abgeschlossenen Zyklus.

 

Dieser traditionelle Herstellungsprozess setzt sich bewusst von der industriellen Massenfertigung asiatischer und osteuropäischer Billig-Nachahmer ab.

 

 

Anlässlich des 20jährigen Geburtstags von rephorm  überträgt Michael Hilgers nun mit der monomalist Edition das Konzept des symbiotischen Add-on Objektes in den Möbelbereich:

 

Der STECKRETÄR verwandelt das ikonische IKEA Billy-Regal innerhalb von 10 Sekunden in einen funktionalen, raumsparenden (Steh)Arbeitsplatz.

 

Hergestellt wird das Möbelobjekt in einer limitierten Auflage von 100 Stück. Dies entspricht der Stückzahl Billys, die in Deutschland innerhalb einer Stunde verkauft werden.

 

Gefertigt in einer deutschen Manufaktur aus zu 100 % recyclebarem Stahl setzt das innovative Möbel Add-On ein Zeichen für Nachhaltigkeit und Individualität in einer Welt der Massenproduktion.

About rephorm

 

The Berlin based designer Michael Hilgers has always devoted himself to the interfaces between urban architecture & nature as well as spatially limited living & working.

 

In 2005 he came up with his idea STECKLING, the first planter that combines symbiotically with architecture by being placed on a balcony railing without the need for tools.

 

At the time, no manufacturer was able to recognize the potential of this innovative idea. So Hilgers founded the rephorm Edition in order to be able to offer his objects in a self-published limited small series.

 

These plastic objects for the architecturally bound outdoor space are not mass products, but are created using rotational molding - one of the oldest, most time-consuming and most labor- intensive processes in plastic molding.

 

In a Brandenburg plastic factory, a maximum of only ten thick-walled, almost indestructible containers are made per day from almost completely recyclable plastic. Through manual processing (demolding, deburring, flaming...) each object becomes unique with a personal character.

 

As the mold slowly wears out during the manufacturing process, the number of objects produced is limited. This is not an artificial shortage, but a completed cycle.

 

This traditional manufacturing process deliberately sets itself apart from the industrial mass production of cheap Asian and Eastern European imitators.

 

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the rephorm Edition, Hilgers is now transferring the concept of the add-on object to the furniture sector:

 

His STECKRETÄR transforms the iconic IKEA Billy shelf into a functional, space-saving (standing) workstation within 10 seconds.

 

The furniture object is manufactured in a limited edition of 100 pieces. This corresponds to the number of Billys that are sold in Germany within a day.
